This Friday, we had a wonderful and interactive trombone performance by Natsuko Takagi (高木 夏子) for Rocket, Comet, and Sun classes. Not only did she perform many fun songs that the children already knew, like the “Tonbo no Megane,” “Totoro,” and “Donguri Korokoro,” but we even had a quiz to see if we could guess which song she was playing after we heard only a few of the notes. She ended the performance with a rendition of “Let It Go” while the kids pretended to play their own trombones made out of paper. Because we had so much fun, we hope that everyone can get a chance to listen to Ms. Natsuko’s wonderful trombone playing in the future. 今週の金曜日、高木夏子さんによるトロンボーン演奏がロケット、コメット、サンの各クラスで行われた。「とんぼのめがね」、「トトロ」、「どんぐりころころ」など、子どもたちがすでに知っている楽しい曲をたくさん演奏してくれただけでなく、ほんの少し音を聞いただけで、どの曲を演奏しているのか当てるクイズまでありました。最後は「レット・イット・ゴー」を演奏し、子供たちは紙で作ったトロンボーンを吹くふりをした。とても楽しかったので、今後も夏子さんの素晴らしいトロンボーン演奏を聴く機会があればと思う。夏子さんの演奏を聴きたい方は、夏子さんのウェブページをご覧ください。

For gym class, Rocket and Comet headed to Kabatake park by foot, lead by our gym teacher, to get some exercise. The children had fun swinging, sliding, kicking a soccer ball, running etc. We were also lucky to see and watch the trains pass by.
体育の授業では、ロケットとコメットが体育の先生に引率され、徒歩で樺竹公園に向かい、体を動かした。子どもたちはブランコやスライディング、サッカーボールを蹴ったり、走ったりして楽しんだ。電車が通り過ぎるのを見ることができたのもラッキーだった。

For our Halloween dress-up day on Tuesday, we saw so many cute animal clothes. Thank you to everyone who participated!

Comet

We originally boarded the “Bessho Line” to ride a train and look for some scarecrows decorating the railways. Unfortunately, we didn’t see any scarecrows but we did have fun riding the train and feeding the koi fish at Ikushima Tarushima Shrine！
もともと別所線に乗ったのは、電車に乗って線路に飾られている案山子を探すためだった。残念ながら、かかしには出会えなかったが、列車に乗ったり、生島垂島神社で鯉に餌をやったりして楽しんだよ。

Because we have a new student joining us from Singapore, we used Google Earth to see how far away it was from Japan and Mr. Jon’s home country of America. We then each chose whether we wanted to color a flag from Japan, Singapore, or the USA.
シンガポールからの新入生が加わったので、グーグルアースを使って、日本やジョンさんの母国アメリカとの距離を調べました。そして、日本、シンガポール、アメリカの国旗のどれに色を塗るかをそれぞれ選んだ。

Rocket

This week, we tried to find out if the children could really read the sight words they often sing by doing the drill below. It was amazing to know that most of them could find and read those words easily.

We also wrote the lowercase “p” and “r”.
今週は、子どもたちがよく歌うサイト・ワードを本当に読めるかどうか、下のドリルで試してみた。ほとんどの生徒がこれらの単語を簡単に見つけ、読むことができたのは驚きだった。
小文字の “p “と “r “も書きました。

In music class, we had a blast running around to avoid various creepy creatures the music teacher showed them before hand. Further, improvement in their behavior and attentiveness was noticeable.  We, teachers, were also glad to hear the first note harmonization they made while playing the pianica.
音楽の授業では、音楽の先生が事前に見せてくれたさまざまな不気味な生き物を避けるために走り回るのが楽しかった。さらに、彼らの行動や注意力の向上は顕著だった。 私たち教師も、彼らがピアニカを弾きながら初めて作った音のハーモニーを聴けて嬉しかった。
