On Tuesday, our music teacher delighted us with a fun winter-themed class. Comet Class had a blast pretending to make mochi by using sticks to hit the floor.

火曜日は、音楽の先生が冬をテーマにした楽しい授業で私たちを楽しませてくれました。コメットクラスは、スティックで床を叩きながらお餅をつく振りをしたりして楽しみました。

On Wednesday, our gym teacher taught us a really a thrilling, different variation on the game of tag.

水曜日には、体育の先生が、とてもハラハラドキドキな鬼ごっこを教えてくれました。

We started our final Unit of Inquiry this week focusing on one of Comet Class’s favorite topics, “Transportation.” Our Central Idea is, “Forms of transportation change over time.” And our beginning Line of Inquiry will be “Types of Transportation.”

今週から最後のUnit of Inquiry(UOI)として、コメットクラスの大好きなトピックの一つである “乗り物”に焦点を当てたUOIが始まりました。中心的アイディアは、”乗り物は時代とともに変化する”です。そして、最初の探究課題(LOI 1)は “乗り物の種類”です。

For our “Prior Knowledge Assessment,” we assigned each Comet Class student to name a different vehicle and categorize it as a “sky,” “land,” or “water” vehicle. Everyone did quite well already, but we need a little more practice saying the names in English.

事前評価(Prior Knowledge Assessment)として、コメットクラスの子ども一人ひとりに、乗り物の名前を挙げてもらい、それを「空」「陸」「水」の乗り物に分類してもらうことにしました。みんなとても頑張っていましたが、英語で乗り物の名前を言う練習をもう少ししていきたいと思います。

The next day, we discussed this UOI’s learner profiles: “Knowledgable” and “Inquirer.” We practiced together asking questions and sharing our knowledge about various topics.

次の日、私たちは今回のUOIの学習者像(learner profile)である、”知識のある人(Knowledgable)” と “探究する人(Inquirer)” について話し合いました。様々なトピックについて質問したり、知識を共有する練習を一緒に行いました。

Finally, we ended the week with an exciting Oshogatsu activity where we played classic games such as Fukuwarai (a make-a-face game), Komamawashi (playing with tops), Karutatori (a race-to-slap-the-card game). What a week!

週の最後には、みんなでお正月の、福笑い、こままわし、かるた取りなどの定番ゲームをISN上田バージョンで楽しみました。充実した1週間になりました。
